ABOUT US Todd hails from Pennsylvania, Amish Country to be exact. As Sharon says, "Todd grew up thinking you should follow a horse, not ride it"! Todd moved west to Colorado because of John Denver's song "Rocky Mountain High" and the vision it created of life in the mountains. Sharon grew up in Southwestern Virginia, riding horses before she could walk. Horses are in her blood so it was no surprise that when she got a wild hair and moved to Colorado, she brought a horse with her. When they met, in Golden, CO. Sharon was actually on her way to feed her horse and Todd struck by the fact that he had met a woman with both a truck and a horse.....the rest is history! On a trip to the Medicine Bow, in Wyoming, Todd spied a Blonde Belgian team and as usual, stopped to admire them. As Sharon relays the story, the next thing I knew, vacation was over and we were loading up harness! This team, "Messy Marvin and Miss Maye", were used daily to log in the National Forest but their owner had lost his contract to log and decided right then that Todd should own these horses! So began, their move into the Draft World. Years passed and after the death of Miss Maye neither had the heart to search for a "replacement". Then came the Clydesdales! The Clydesdale encompassed everything we loved about the Belgian: the kind and gentle spirit, the willingness to just step into the harness and get it done. Yet the Clydesdale is such a majestic animal, the propulsion, the movement, they simply glide. "We were hooked"! Only this time, Todd's dream was to turn Clydesdales into his vocation! Today, some eight years later, Shenandoah Heavy Horses is a breeding program worthy of admiration: Producing top quality Clydesdales, with confirmation, intelligence and athletic ability to rival any both in the show ring and out. As Todd relates, "We want to be known for producing quality horses. Not only do our horses win in the show ring but we want the family to be able to book that horse for an afternoon ride knowing the grandkids are safe too. Mind, body, spirit, it takes all three to make a complete horse and that is the quality horse we breed here at Shenandoah Heavy Horses.”
